Future Tigers
Are you interested in being a part of an award-winning choir program and legacy of excellence?
We are SO thrilled and excited to welcome incoming 8th grade students into the Travis Tiger Choir Family! The THS Choir program is full of opportunities for students who want to be a part of a family that works hard while having lots of fun! We are made of a student body with many interests! Our choir students are not only singers, but also involved in other activities such as Athletics, Color Guard, ROTC, FFA, HOSA, National Honor Society, Global Studies Academy, Black Student Union, African Student Association, Hispanic Student Association, Language Clubs, and so much more!
Below are some common FAQ's for incoming students:
How do I sign up for choir? When you select your courses in Skyward, be sure that you select "Choir" as an elective option to be placed into the choir schedule.
What is the difference between middle school choir and high school choir? There are lots of similarites and differences between middle school and high school choir! We have many of the same events such as concerts, Region Choir, and Solo & Ensemble, but we also have a lot of fun social events, trips, All-State Choir, and more community performance opportunities such as Friday night football games! High school singers get to grow and flourish as they learn to sing with a maturing voice and sing more advanced repertoire.
Can I do choir and athletics or other electives? YES! We work with the counselors to try our best to ensure that all students interested in choir are able to participate!
What choir will I be in? All freshmen are placed into one of our non-auditioned choirs. Even if you were in a Varsity middle school ensemble, you are initially placed into one of the non-auditioned treble or tenor-bass ensembles.
Can I audition for Chorale my freshmen year? Chorale is an auditioned ensemble for singers who have at least one year of high school choir experience.
Can I audition for All-State? YES! All-state auditions are open to ALL Tiger Choir members!
Does choir have a lot of after school committments? Choir has a minimum of 4 required concerts each year that occur in the evenings. Students in Chorale may have required rehearsals in UIL season after school, but non-varsity choirs do not have any regular rehearsals or commitments after school. We also have several social events throughout the year that are optional participation.
Who do I contact to learn more about the THS Choir program or help me with adding choir to my schedule? Please reach out to Mr. Miner, Choir Director, via email at daniel.miner@fortbendisd.gov and he can help answer any questions you have or assist you!
